GWS Membership Award

Don has had paintings accepted in the National Watercolor Society (NWS), the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA), the Southern Watercolor Society (SW), the FloridaWatercolor Society (FWS), the Texas Watercolor Society (TWS), the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society (PWS), the Watercolor Society of Alabama (WSA), the Tallahassee Watercolor Society (TaWS), the Hilton Head Art League, and the Cornell Museum in Delray Beach. He is currently a signature member of the SW, TWS and TaWS. National awards include the Houston Watercolor Society award in the 2000 SW Show, the WSA Memorial award in the 2006 WSA Show, the Jack Richeson award in the 2007 SW Show, and the only award given to a watercolor in the Ft. Walton Beach Arts and Design Society 2006 All-media Southeast US Show. In 2007, he was one of 80 artists selected from 1100 artists internationally for the NWS Open Juried Show as well being accepted in the NWS Members Only Show earlier in 2007.He was also accepted in the 39th Annual Watercolor West Exhibition in CA Dec 2007. "Angles and Arches" has been accepted in the Allied Artists 94th Annual Exhibition 2007 in NYC. He has had many regional awards and juried entries in such venues as the Visual Art Center of NW FL, the St. Augustine Art Association, the LeMoyne Gallery in Tallahassee, the Thomasville (GA) Cultural Center, the Gadsden Art Center (Quincy), and the Wiregrass Museum in Dothan. Don has been a member of the Panama Art Association since 1972 (now called the Visual Art Center of NW FL) and was president of the PAA for 2 years. He was a director on the VAC board from 2002-2006. He is the president of the Southern Watercolor Society through 2008 and was vice president 2005-2006. Although a practicing veterinarian in Panama City since 1972 (now semi-retired), he has taken many workshops from nationally known artists such as Claude Croney, Tom Lynch, Judi Betts, Doug Walton, Arne Westerman, Don Andrews, Frank Webb and many others.

Don has done many art commissions especially in the area of old family homes and most of his works are available as giclee prints. Since 2004, he has created the cover design art and original painting which is used annually as a fund raiser for the Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center. For over 15 years, he has helped to recapture some of the historical Bay county landmarks through his art. Now, he teaches watercolor classes at his home studio and teaches workshops in the region.
